Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels

[[VIDEOID:c3ed46d29652fa963a30c335c32466b3]]"Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels" is a visual guide to the prequel trilogy. This should be thought of as primarily a picture book - it is full of great imagery and photographs.

The book is a great guide to everything you see in the movies - characters, aliens, droids, vehicles, planets, etc. If you see it in the movie, odds are it appears in this book. If you are interested in inspecting the details of the design work, then this is the perfect book for you. Characters are presented from multiple angles so that you can see every inch of their costumes - front, back, sides, etc.

Also included is a very handy size comparison chart - you can see how tall Chewbacca is in comparison to Yoda; or compare the tiny Jedi Starfighter to the massive scale of the various Capital Ships. A timeline of events in the Star Wars Universe included at the front of the book is also very helpful.

What this book lacks, however, is much insight into the making of the movies. For each film, there is a two-page spread dedicated to the making of the movies... that's it. Text appears mostly in the form of short captions that accompany some of the images. So if you are looking for behind the scenes content, look elsewhere.

Overall, the book comes recommended. I'm not sure if it is worth the list price, but if you are able to find a deal then I would say give it a look.

An excellent reference book of the prequels

I am a fan of an anime show called "Macross", and in the world of Macross there are two books that represent the penultimate guides in terms of reference drawings, notes, designer diaries, and rough sketches. These books are called "Perfect Memory" and the "Gold Book". It is no small complement to this book to say the Chronicles Prequel is the "Gold Book" of the Star Wars prequel franchise.

Like the Original Chronicles book, this book starts with fold out size charts of all the characters, then fold out charts of all the vehicles, and then fold out charts of all the ships. It then splits into chapters one for each movie, and one very small one for the animated series.

Each chapter covers vehicles, sets, equipment and a myriad of other things in exhaustive detail. Ever wonder how many clone troopers can fit on the back of that giant walking turbo laser battery? Ever wonder why Ploo koon still used the older Jedi star fighter when he was shot down? How about seeing the giant slug the troopers rode in that scene where Aayla was shot. Or take a peek up Lu-mai's dress :-) I can't stress enough how much visual information there is in this book.

To this day I still get out my old "Macross Gold Book" and go thru its myriad of line drawings and still find new details and things Ive never seen before. This book will fit into the same category, and is therefore a very good buy and very highly recommended.

Mostly movie stills

Like it's predecessor, "Star Wars" Chronicles, the Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels is brimming with beautiful images from the Star Wars prequels and the making of the movies. As with the first book, my favorite part is easily the foldout comparisons photos, which include all of the ships lined up side by side. Unfortunately, because so much of the prequels was digital, there aren't a lot of models and alien creature masks to photograph. Some of the CG ships just don't look as realistic as those from the original trilogy. Most of the photos are image stills from the movies or profiles of characters. Generally, Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels doesn't seem to have as much "behind-the-scenes" photos as "Star Wars" Chronicles. Still, the book is very comprehensive and there's enough to make it worthwhile (especially if you buy it used for a good price).

De Bono, a business and educational consultant, asserts that this manual is equally applicable to teaching children or senior executives. Crammed with exercises, games and diagrams, the book stresses that thinking involves "operacy"--the skills of doing or making things happen--as well as devising mental patterns more effective than the mind's routine habits. De Bono ( I Am Right You Are Wrong ) takes a no-nonsense approach, pointing out that much thinking is inefficient and that many highly intelligent people are not good thinkers. He urges the use of speculation, hypotheses, provocation and other techniques as a way to get out of mental ruts and generate ideas.

Excellent and accessible to everyone

The title should be: Learn How to Think, and Have Fun Doing It.
Perhaps the author did not want to insult adults by presuming he can teach them how to think. But that is exactly what he does.
Clever to make the title thusly.

What put me off a little bit at first was the author seems boastful in the first part of the book.

However, once you delve into the different "hats" that we can wear to "exercise" different types of thinking, you will have a lot of fun with this book.

What is especially useful is that the types of thinking are segmented out, with lots of examples and also suggested games and ways to practice that type of thinking.

We don't teach this stuff in schools. Not even close. This book is unique, and brilliant, and useful. I highly recommend that you buy it -- even if you don't have kids! Use it to learn how to think more productively, including problem solving and lateral thinking.

There is nothing as crucial as thinking skills! Having read this book, I realised that some of us did not have the chance to develop thinking habits, thinking tools and the thinking hats described in this book! In this sense, I do not think this book is only to teach children, it is for adults like me who did not have the blessing of having been influenced by this powerful knowledge.

If I had to give other titles to this book, I would call it the thinking manual; the thinking bible; the right path to develop thiking skills in everyone... While I think the book meets my personal and profissional needs, I think that there is too much information in one book. I mean can we expect parents to go through the whole book? How practical is it for parents to read 300 pages and then try to make sense of it then apply it?

Please do not get me wrong. I fully and strongly recommend this book. I just reflected on the book based upon my context.

It is an excellent book which is introducing my kids to me for the first time ...
Since my kids were born I was playing with them and trying to teach them some skills in thinking and analyzing etc. but nothing compares to the exercises and thinking mentioned in the book ... For the first time in my life I can say I am beginning to know my children. The exercises are initiating extremely interesting discussions that are shocking me by the level of ideas and maturity a child can have ... In addition to that, these discussions are creating a stronger bond between my children and me due to the deep subjects discussed which are leading us to be open to each other ...

ACTUALLY I BOUGHT THIS FOR PERSPECTIVE ON THE BHAGAVADA GITA

Ever read a review which starts with a link? Here: God Talks with Arjuna: The Bhagavad Gita But this book review pertains to DREAMS, ILLUSIONS AND OTHER REALITIES, which I bought as a companion piece for the big BG. I've
been comparing religions since 1980. DREAMS, et al does work well with that other, really fine two-volume book, although for its paper-back price it lacks the glowing illustrations of the heard-bound two-volume set, saving me about $70.

I applaud and agree with the two prior reviews, which say what I might have said. This dream/
illusion book offers good perspectives and complements my understanding of the big BG. Actually,
this Dream book adds a great deal; skim the Look Inside features for good, clarifying aspects.
