Must have for those who love to drive!

This book is inspiring and helpful. I appreciate the authors intertwining his life experience into a topic that might be boring if approached with a direct and dry approach.

A fine book with the wrong title

I've purchased this book for the second time after my first copy (signed by Vic himself) was lost by a friend. As other reviewers have noted, the book might not deliver quite what one expects. The title may be at fault, and it was possibly chosen by the publisher more than the author. But if you read the book for its insights into 1960s and early 70s sports car racing and rallying, you won't be disappointed. Elford brings an unusual blend of technical expertise, first-hand knowledge, and good writing skills to the task. It can be inspirational to know that the source of this driving advice was the real deal, someone who thundered around the 'green hell' of the Nurburgring fast enough to win it twice, and who earned the nickname 'quick Vic' while dragging around the slowest car (Cooper) on the F1 grid.

Another reviewer objects to there being so much Elford in this book. But instead think of this as a memoir with tons of advice and instruction thrown in. Elford himself (from someone who knew him) was much too modest to tell his story without trying to make it useful to others. In the end it doesn't matter what kind a car you drive. His attitude and insights in high performance driving situations are worth understanding. He may or may not make you a faster driver, but he'll probably make you a wiser one.

Underwhelming ...

The book is broken down to many small chapters by subject (e.g. equipment, tires, accelerating, cornering, etc..) which is a good way to present. Unfortunately beyond the organization the book mostly fails as a driving handbook and is not interesting to read.

Every chapter begins with a story from his driving career that often seems unnecessary and obvious and not always interesting. At points it reads more like an autobiography than a reference manual. The 173 pages pages in the book are filled with (nice) pictures but the pictures don't add anything to the subject and come across as page fillers.

There's very little theory or technical discussion of driving and it's really a coffee table book with neat pictures. Also the car set-up section is entirely irrelevant to most readers (entry level track day-ers and racers) as it gives very little advice in either theory or execution.

There are much better books in general driving categories ("Driving Secrets", "Going Faster", "Drive to Win", "Winning: A Race Driver's Handbook").

Keep it up...I want more Scariest Places

I enjoyed this tale just as much as the others in this series. This one is a little more violent and deranged than Suicide Forrest and Catacombs. I personally enjoy those types of horror stories. The darker, violent, and depraved the better. This was not that bad on those levels, even a mildly horror enthusiast would enjoy it. I appreciate that each book is a stand alone and has nothing to do with each other. My favorite so far is Suicide Forrest. I think it is important and says a lot when an author can write in a series and not force you to purchase additional books just to get to an ending. Their writing and story telling alone should be enough to encourage additional purchases. That being said, I have read most of Mr. Bates' books and will continue to do so.

Fast, Scary Horror!

I just tore through Helltown by Jeremy Bates and I have to tell you - I am fast becoming a fan!

The latest in Bates' World's Scariest Places books is a bloody romp through backwoods horrors and Satanic Terrors. Reminiscent of books by Richard Laymon, the story telling is hard and fast, barely leaving you any breathing room between thrills.

Now this one isn't quite as epic as some of the others. While we get a little of the history of Helltown, I wanted more history to add to the atmosphere. This is a little more of one of those 1970's horror flicks starring Ernest Borgnine mixed with a little Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Still supremely cool, but I did miss the history and the atmosphere that Bates had in his books in Japan and Paris.

Nitpicking aside, this is still good, gruesome horror. And the fact that it takes place in a place you could actually visit only adds to the fun.

I'm on board for whatever Bates throws at us next!

I had never read a Jeremy Bates novel until I read Helltown. I found it rivaling some of Stephen King's and Dean Koontz's early works---high praise indeed. I found it chilling and very believable, something which many horror novels are not. I will be buying more of Bates's works for sure !

THE BEST REFERENCE ON EZEKIEL'S TEMPLE

Of all the books I own concerning Ezekiel's prophecies (and I have many) this is BY FAR THE BEST and complete I have ever read. Best of all, it lines up with the Scriptures (for the most part; he believes in "soul sleep" which I disagree with). Many Old Testament teachers & commentators incorrectly allegorize the unfulfilled OT prophecies or follow faulty "replacement theology." The writer deals with this subject out of the Love he had in his heart fro the Word of God and the promises made to Abraham, Issac and Israel (Jacob). The writer places his heart and mind into the hands of The Father who guides him through his studies to bring out the joy of the promise of the Kingdom of God on earth and the return of the Messiah to reconcile mankind back to God and return the earth to the beauty and joy that was in the mind of The Father at creation. The promise of eternal life to those who believe and are baptised into the name of The Lord Jesus Christ is enhanced and the fire in the hearts fed with the fuel of God's word and Love that can only come from God and His son. But when I started to see the logic behind the system Adrian Calabrese presents in How to Get Everything You Ever Wanted, I knew that no other title would do. This book really does show you how to get everything you want.
This is not a book with simplistic answers. You have to work to achieve your goals. But this book shows you how to effectively work with the system designed into the universe, the system designed to let you have what you need. All you need to do is learn the basics and follow the system.
And what are the basics? They are the development of your own psychic abilities. Dr. Calabrese shows you how to do this with exercises and meditations. As owner of countless self-help books and tapes, I rank this book among the best. This book is actually a workshop that shows you how you can align the stars in your favor. Adrian brings together the best techniques of: Affirmations, meditation, visualization, and intuition. Toghether, it makes for a powerful book that you will want to keep nearby. Additionally, Adrian writes in such a way that she is having a conversation with the reader.

Compared to other books, you will want to keep reading this book because it opens your heart and soul to real possibilities.

I know this book works because I have benefited from the techniques. I use this now to rediscover the potential and excitement in my life.

If you're new to self-help this is a great place to begin. If you're a veteran reader like myself, you will make this a favorite. Read it and use it!

The title says it all!!

This book really makes me feel motivated to start working at getting what I deserve out of life! Dr. Calabrese presents spiritual principles in easy to understand terms and presents a practical, step-by-step approach to "manifesting" your heart's desires.
The book reads quickly and is organized like a workbook. You can begin working on meditation exercises almost immediately to begin honing your skills in visualizing(a technique employed as part of Calabrese's "6 Step Program"). Also presented are techniques to develop your innate intuitive (psychic) abilites and write your own affirmations to use in meditation.
If your mind is open to psychic phenomena and the spiritual plane of existence, then you can benefit from this book regardless of your religious background. The spiritual principles are universal and presented in a way that really makes sense. Dr. Calabrese writes very conversationally and avoids "lofty, new-age jargon."

Best book on manifesting

I've read so many books on this subject and this by far has been the best. I've recently recommended this book to at least eight people whom have all read it and loved it. Once you start reading it you wont be able to put it down. All the people that I've told about it have thanked me for telling them about this book. I consider myself an experienced manifestor and I've learned so many new things and learned somethings that I've been doing that were incorrect. I loved the affirmations in the back of the book to use while you meditate. Read this book you'll be glad you did and if you practice what she teaches you can have everthing you've ever wanted.

I really love it sooo much! I have to say that before reading this, I have just read one book from Brooke Moss (Keeping Secrets in Seattle) and completely fell in love with it, it’s one of my favorite books ever. Now I feel so happy that The Art of Being Indifferent is now one of my favorite books that I had read in this year 2014 and one of the best books I had read ever.

I loved the characters Posey and Drew, and loved them even more when they were together. Loved that both of them where always there for each other.

I loved the way both Posey and Drew became friends and the way they became more than friends. I have been a little bit tired of reading insta-love and this book just gave me a nice new breath away from all that. Loved the way Paula and John were, and all the kids.

I love how it was written and the humor of Brooke Moss, I have now no doubts that she is such a great author, and hopefully I may be reading more books from her in the future.

The blurb for the book pretty much sums it up. Not too many surprises or twists if you read the description and are interested give this book a go if not give it a miss.

What I liked
- good writing which makes you want to read more
- good place building - the book set the scene in terms of places really well
- characters had substance - they were well thought out in terms of their pasts, personalities and personal challenges.

What I didn't like
- towards the end posy made some really rash judgement calls which were so out of character and made me dislike her character
- the book is based around some serious issues (abuse, rejection ect) which made it interesting but also a bit depressing.

Not your typical YA read.

Brooke Moss did it again! I like YA book, but most of the time I am left wanting when I finish one. The Art Of Being Indifferent didn't do that for me. It was a good mix of deep connection and fun typical high school love. The characters Posey and Drew and complicated and real. I loved the story! It had me laughing and smiling and slighting on the edge of my seat. Very incredibly job by Brooke Moss! I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a good connection between characters and a "don't judge a book by its cover" home lives than you'll really enjoy this book.

About the Author
J. A. Cover is professor of philosophy at Purdue University. Leaving a research post after completing a B.S. in biochemistry and biophysics at the University of California, Davis, he took a B.A. in philosophy at Syracuse University, where he later received his M.A. and Ph.D. Published widely in journals and books on issues in early modern philosophy, metaphysics, and philosophy of science, he is coeditor of Central Themes in Early Modern Philosophy (Hackett, 1990), coauthor of Theories of Knowledge and Reality, Second Edition (McGraw-Hill, 1994), coauthor of Leibniz on Substance and Individuation (Cambridge, 1999), and coeditor of Leibniz: Nature and Freedom (Oxford, 2005).

Martin Curd is associate professor of philosophy at Purdue University. He has a B.A. in natural sciences from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in history and philosophy of science from the University of Pittsburgh. Working mainly in philosophy of science and epistemology, he is coeditor of The Routledge Companion to Philosophy of Science (2008).

Christopher Pincock is associate professor of philosophy at The Ohio State University. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley in 2002. Pincock has published articles in the philosophy of science, the philosophy of mathematics and the history of analytic philosophy. His book Mathematics and Scientific Representation (Oxford) was published in 2012.

Great for my purpose

This book was recommended as essential reading to accompany The Teaching Company's course "Philosophy of Science". It covered many of the issues presented in the course. The book is an introduction to the current issues. The arguments are well thought out and presented clearly. It appears that there is no 'Look inside' feature so here is a peak at the high level contents
1. Science and Pseudoscience
2. Rationality, Objectivity, and Values in Science
3. The Duhem-Quine thesis and Underdetermination
4. Induction, Prediction, and Evidence
5. Confirmation and Relevance: Bayesian Approaches
6. Models of Explanation
7. Laws of Nature
8. Intertheoretic Reduction
9. Empiricism and Scientific Realism

I should also add that the book has an introduction and to each of the above sections. Each section is followed by a commentary of each article therein. Finally, the book has a glossary, name index, and subject index.

Great introduction to a grand subject

Used this book for an undergraduate philosophy of science course. The volume contains a large number of extremely seminal papers with an accessibility that ranges from the relatively easy (e.g. Hempel's D-N model) to more difficult works (e.g. Quine's Two Dogmas). As a collection of historically relevant philosophy of science papers, you certainly cannot go wrong with this choice.

Great anthology and survey of significant works in the field of Phil of Sci. This book has inspired me to look into Thomas Kuhn's contributions to the field. Kuhn is a sloppy writer and easy to critique [as this book shows], however, he has some 'revolutionary' ideas [no pun intended] as to the nature of paradigm shift in the scientific community. The book gives bits of other great works from such people as Hemple, Laudan, and even Popper. Highly recommended if you are looking for a survey of works in the field of Philosophy of Science.
