Well written and very informative

If I had to describe this book in one word it would be riveting, because once I started reading it I couldn't put it down until it was finished! Don Basham was reluctant in every sense of the word where demons and the deliverance ministry was concerned. Mr. Basham was like so many, dealing with financial issues as well as what I would consider a stagnant ministry, but he never considered that perhaps he might be under demonic attack, and when a fellow pastor mentioned this he sort of shrugged it off. Thing is God wanted to use Mr. Basham and it seemed at every twist he would be confronted with this subject over and over until he could no longer deny that evil spirits are all to real and that God had a plan to use him in this type of ministry.
Eye opening yet a little unsettling this book certainly took me on a spiritually eye opening journey. I found Mr. Basham's writing style very down to earth and easy to relate to, he shares his triumphs but also admits that he made mistakes as well. He shares the knowledge that he learns allowing the reader to learn how evil can infiltrate their lives without them even knowing it, but he also provides clear ideas on how to keep that from happening. Originally published in 1972 the writing style doesn't feel dated and Mr. Basham's experiences and the demons he encountered are really just as relevant today as they were then. Anyone looking to gain power over the enemy should really read this book, after all if we believe in God and the Bible we have to believe that Satan exists.

A MUST READ on the subject of Holy Spirit led Deliverance testimonies!!!

This book, “Deliver Us From Evil” by Don Basham (1926-1989) is not just a book of testimonies about deliverance...it is a text book to teach on this subject of deliverance. I say this because one can learn volumes by reading how the Lord moved in the life of Don Basham which caused him to enter into his calling as a minister of deliverance amongst other things.
I love so many different things about this book. It is one of those “hard to put down” sort of books and why would you want to? This subject on deliverance is needed...is necessary..in order for God's people to be set free to be who they are called to be in Christ Jesus. I believe that every single believer ought to know about and be able to move/minister in deliverance. I do believe some are specifically called to be deliverance specialists so to speak, for lack of a better word.
I loved how Don Basham shares how he tried not to talk on the subject of demons/deliverance because it would end up causing him troubles. This made me laugh out loud as I can relate! He found that even though he would try to keep his mouth shut on this subject, that people would still bring it up before him, showing him that this was indeed something the Lord had very much on His mind regarding ministry for Don Basham.
Don had so many experiences and I am most appreciative that he wrote these testimonies out and a book was produced. I can't tell you how thankful I am for this and to the Lord for bringing this to light.
The subject of deliverance/demons infesting God's people...is not a popular one around most conservative Christian tables and yet...you will find that almost everyone has a need for it.
I have personally had similar experiences and testimonies as Don has had. It seems the ones who come down the hardest on the subject of deliverance and Christians having demons are the very ones who need deliverance.
It was the Holy Spirit who brought all of this up to my own attention. One evening after praying for a woman during a meeting in my own home...and she received deliverance..no one was more surprised then I was. Another woman came up then asking if I would do deliverance on her. I told her I had not been trained and knew this could be dangerous. That night then after all had gone home I had prayed, “Lord...please show me what my gifts are and teach me how to use them.” Before I knew it...I was being led to attend a conference on deliverance and it was confirmed so clearly that I knew it was of the Lord.
One thing always seems to lead to another.
If you have an interest in this subject or are already involved in it then I suggest you get this book and feast on it. You won't be sorry. Even if you are a novice on deliverance I believe there are some things you will glean from it.
I personally am thankful for this reminder of at least one thing I know I am called to do. This book brought me that reminder as well as confirmation to that fact. I am waking back up to get back on track in this area. Looking inward as well for anything that may be found lurking about to try to prevent me from moving forward in my own calling in Christ Jesus.

Demonic Deliverance

Pastor Don Basham steadily conveys his skepticism of a literal spiritual realm then convincingly transforms into full-fledged belief causing him to be one of the leading figures in the forefront of deliverance from demonic invasion. Christians can undoubtedly relate to his futile efforts of ongoing disputes with other "believers" over the Holy Scriptures' interpretations, as well as being ridiculed and shamed as an outcast for his supernatural based faith. He reveals his perpetual struggle to make ends meet while crossing paths with the Lord in very mysterious provisional ways. Numerous harrowing encounters are described with particular possessed individuals who are either open to deliverance...or not. Of course, as in every horror story, the level of fear escalates multiple degrees once children are involved. The moments when Basham's children are brought into the scene of demonic attacks are brief, albeit some of the most chilling.
The author provides the reader with his own personal in-depth research into the Holy Word to substantiate and guard against spiritual warfare. Pastor Don differentiates between carnal sin and the actual presence and influence of demonic activity. He outlines his definitive findings and means of protection in the otherworldly battle. Ample Scriptural verses are supplied throughout Deliver Us from Evil to support incidents, actions and theories:
*A very simple, but daunting method to test for an evil spirit
*Three different techniques to know if you have a demon

*At the end of the book, Pastor Don presents an intriguing history on the fall of Satan, the identity of this fallen angel, his demons, his kingdom, the fall of man and continuous warfare. The author briefly summarizes each in his own words backed up with evidential Scriptures in a chronology which the reader can lucidly comprehend and visualize.
It is a curious thing as to what the symbolic significance is of conducting these exorcisms within the basements of churches and various facilities. Also, I wish there was further elaboration on his sleep paralysis which seemed to be heavily under demonic attack. This is an experience yours truly has repeatedly been victim to for over twenty-two years.
I was hoping for a bit more suspense, but Basham keeps it honest in his memoir and, nevertheless, the spine-chilling aspect does suffice. While I am not an adherent to the charismatic interpretation of the gift of tongues as referenced within Pastor Don's work and ministry, this does not negate the supernatural issues and occurrences at hand regarding the power of the Holy Spirit verses demonic manifestation.
Deliver Us from Evil has sold over 300,000 copies and is definitely required text for any Christian and non-believer, if they are willing. The supernatural perspective of the church is diminishing into ludicrous folklore, resulting in dangerous circumstances and convoluted so-called faith. Basham gives a matter-of-fact presentation into coming face to face with what exists on the other side of the veil, and which is involving all of us whether we believe it or not.
