Run to the Hills

Run To The Hills is probably the best place to start if you want to learn more about the career of Iron Maiden. This looks at their formation, rise to fame, the various line-ups, albums, concerts, band disputes and other general information about this classic group. You also get a good selection of photographs. Mick Wall is a respected rock journalist and this book is no exception, great story, well told. Make sure you track down the latest edition of this book as i've seen at least three versions now and it'll be worth getting the most up-to-date one if you can. A great history of one of Britain's most influential metal groups. Well worth a read.

This book is easy to read and offers relevant models for number instruction for teachers wanting to try something new and progressive in the classroom. You will never think of teaching the concept of number in the same way again, nor will the art of teaching number seem repetitive or dull for another second in your classroom.

First of all, let me say that the author is amazing. I've seen her in person and she is so knowledgeable. This is a book that I purchased as an undergrad and have since misplaced or borrowed to someone. Since this book is no longer in print, I was happy to find a used copy.

Less about her amazing accomplishments as a business woman and designer, more about her stifling love affairs with men.

I have painfully pushed through 40% of this book and can't go on any longer. This is not about the woman she wanted to be, this is about the woman and every single stifling love affair with countless men. I wanted to read about this amazing woman, her business, how she grew it, her ideas, her hardships and successes. The stories of her children and mother are wonderful, however, they jump around like a child's maze, left, right, around and back again. Time in this book jumps forward and backward. She explains in the beginning the book is organized based on how these things influenced her life. However, it comes out as a disorganized pile of clips of her life. Maybe it gets better as the book goes on, but I am moving on.

I bought audio book on CD--read by the author. Jumped around a lot--not as good as I expected. Hard to relate to her story

The book hopped around all over the place, from men, years, periods of success in or out of business. I could not relate to it overall--not because she succeeded, but because how she got the money and how she got her start--was not really viably explained. I did really appreciate the opening and the later references to the impact of her mother in a concentration camp. I do not believe that made Diane the "independent woman who lives like a man" that she sees herself to be. I do see that she has achieved great success and that never occurs on it's own, so she seems to be talented hard working women who achieved success. However, Diane lived a life of luxury and privilege which in no way reflects somebody starting their own business. She was a socialite and designer, who got her fame from who she originally married. Yes, she designed and achieved a lot and said she did it on her own, but that was not apparent. She was defined by men, who she used as much as she chased them. I am impressed by her success, and she was self-empowered because she had money--and let's not forget the connections. The people she operated in from her young twenties, are just not people or a lifestyle we would be exposed to. I do not believe her business would have been created or grown without any of those connections and lifestyle--especially from marrying the title--I can't believe she got all the money all on her own.

Quick, fun read, but wouldn't read it again

I enjoyed reading DvF's The Woman I Wanted to Be. I was really excited about this memoir, which seems to have been timed perfectly with the recent launch of DvF's reality TV series. Aside from the first chapter, which tells the story of Diane's mother surviving the Nazi concentration camps, the rest of the book feels like an impersonal account of Diane's personal and professional milestones, with random stories sprinkled in between. Her tone in this book feels distant and her powerful personality, charm, and sense of independence didn't really shine through. She glossed over the hardships she endured in her personal and professional life, almost sounding like an E! News reporter recapping an update instead of speaking about her thoughts and emotions as she experienced these hardships. I like that she included an interesting glimpse into her childhood, her "boring" youth, and all the different stages of her life until now, complete with all the whirlwind romances and big loves (aided by the journals she kept). It was a quick, fun read written honestly about Diane's life as a princess, socialite, designer, daughter, mother and more.

Desperate, they follow instructions in a mysterious journal: if they gather eight items from various residents in the kingdoms of the Land of Stories, they can complete the Wishing Spell and have one wish granted. After scaling castle walls, diving deep into the home of mermaids, and meeting characters from all of the beloved fairy tales, they are stymied by the Evil Queen, who has escaped from Snow White's dungeon. With the hope of using the spell gone, the twins appear to have no way home until they meet Fairy Godmother, their own grandmother. In a way, they find comfort from their grief over their father's death when they realize that they have been following his journal and that he grew up in this land. The writing quality in this adventure is inconsistent and detracts from the fast-paced story. The deep sadness of the twins comes through, but they are somewhat one-dimensional, since Alex is so much the nerd and Conner, the class clown. The plotline, however, pulls readers in and is entertaining, and Colfer's passion for fairy tales shines through. Great story! Questionable language...

I am a 4th grade teacher and I read this book to my class. Most of my students LOVED it and always begged me to read more. The story line is very engaging and quick-moving. It was a great way to review fairy tales. Even as an adult I was very entertained by the adventures of these two kids as they journey through the Land of Stories and meet all of the fairy-tale characters we grew up reading about.

The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the language. There is an occasional swear word which is just unnecessary. Obviously I didn't read those words aloud, but a few kids following along know that they were there. I have a hard time recommending a book to kids that has language that I wouldn't want them using.

Great Book

My daughter is a big Harry Potter fan, and her teacher recommended this book to read. My daughter who is in 5th grade enjoyed this book. A book that transports you back into a land of fairytales. Get ready to be entertained with the adventures of two children as they journey through the Land Of Stories and meet all the fairy tale characters we grew up reading about. I enjoyed the book as much as my daughter did.

I went into this book with high hopes and lots of expectations. I love Chris Colfer, so I was excited to read this book. The writing is a reflection that he is indeed a new writer. Like we all want our books to do, it does leave a lot of guessing and "What just happened?!" moments. But as a lover of books and writing, it was hard to follow because of the elementary writing. What I will say to praise the book, however, is that although I didn't particularly like the style of prose, it was written as though one is telling a story rather than reading a book. The characters are lovable, our favorite fairy tales brought together in a beautiful new world that seems hardly big enough to hold them all. I enjoyed the story itself, and want to read the next ones to find out what happens. Definitely well suited for children, void of any sexual exploitations or language. It truly is a unique piece of work that should be entered into lightly with the expectation that you will get a new scope of the "Happily Ever Afters" we all wonder about.

I just finished reading this and had to write this review on this book. This book was even more suspenseful than the first one. I knew some of the things had to happen in this book. I knew Trevor would find her and it was not going to be good. I loved her courage. I bought this after I finished reading the first book. At first I wasn't going to and pick a book I already had but as. I read the last sentence I didn't waste anytime a couple minutes later I was reading this book because I had to find out how the story ends and what would happen to Trevor. I like this book a little better than the first. If you got the first story about Lily then spend the money and get this one also. I'm glad I did or I would be thinking for a long time what happened.

Absolutely nothing inappropriate

This review is actually for this book and its predecessor, He Loves Me Not. The author doesn't have a great writing style and the characters lack dimension but she does have a really good idea of how difficult it can be to escape from an abusive relationship; I know because it took me 18 years to get out of mine. The conflicting emotions that the heroine experiences are true to life. People who have never been victims of abuse often find it difficult to understand what makes it so hard to leave and once you do leave, why it's so hard to not go back and the author manages to capture, in a small way, those particular emotional conflicts. The heroine, in my opinion had things much too easy. She doesn't suffer from financial difficulties which makes her escape much simpler. Most abuse victims don't have the luxury of their own vehicle or a nice fat $100k bank account to live on, nor the luxury of being able to sell a deceased parent's home to add to that bank account. I had to laugh a little when Lily/Kate effortlessly drove away from Reno with no fear of running out of gas money, forked out money to rent a home, walked into a Doctor's Office and paid cash for her appointments and casually stopped by Wal-Mart to purchase a brand new crib and baby clothes...if only it was really that easy! They're not terrible books, but they're not great either. They're easy reads, and it only took me a few hours to get through each of them, although I never had a problem putting either of them down. I'll probably read more from this author because her books are inexpensive and have absolutely no profanity or inappropriate sexual passages and that is refreshing. These would probably be good books for older teenage girls to read to teach them to pay attention to the red flags they will most certainly see when they are dating.

The main character Lilly/Katy never grows. Keeps making stupid decisions that puts her child at risk. Wish I hadn't wasted my money giving this writer second chance.
