Quite a find!

I was very excited when I found this and even more excited when it arrived. And for good reason. I have loved Rite of Spring since I first heard it, and having listened to a recording repeatedly, I have been itching to try it out on the piano. This edition includes COMPLETE transcriptions of Firebird, Petrushka, and Rite of Spring, and the score is perfect for following along with the orchestral music since you can easily see the chords and melody. Believe me, it's much easier than trying to follow along with the mega-complex orchestral score of Rite of Spring. The difficulty level varies greatly within each of the ballets; there are extremely easy parts and extremely difficult parts. Good sight-reading ability is very helpful in all three, but particularly in Rite of Spring. And yes, the RoS transcription is the most difficult in the book; however, I get around a lot of the difficulties by cheating... you know, omitting a few notes here and there... ; )

Travel guides on a reader is much harder to manage than having a paperback. I couldn't go between pages and couldn't refer back to the map as I frequently have to in order to get a visual on location and distance. I found the hotel recommendations to be either too low end or too high end. Tripadvisor on line was much better at giving information, as they were in selecting guides and tours.

A rich blend of regional history and travel planning tips for those going to Morocco. The book's organization allows its readers to jump in anywhere and soak up the plentiful details without being locked into a preconceived narrative. Everything seems to be here you'd need except instructions for non-Moslem women on how to wear a head scarf. No need to include that in the book, though, as Googling "hajib" will find you numerous sites with illustrated directions.

I find MOST of Lonely Planet Guides unhelpful and disjointed and loaded with "treks', unexplained and verbose in nature. But this one is the exception. Even though I am not a trekker, I will be taking some short treks because of the organization of this author who presents the hikes properly, detailing shorter treks and giving the statistics, length, etc. of each. The other LP guides just have long rambling jaunts on treks; this author is awesome! I love how he organized the regions well too and how he described adventures for all types of tourists and the architectural details of the hotels. I love this guy so my first five star review for Lonely Planet!

Great intro!

I really enjoy reading Ms. Klaire's books. And this book is no exception!

This is pre-book of a series so if you don't like series...skip it. But if you like how unfolds over several books with each book focusing on the view point of several characters...this is a good series! Each book does have two or three main characters who fall in love BUT it's not just love at first sight. They each have different issues that they have to overcome before their HEA. Though this book is just a taste of this new world without much about the over all story line.

In this book we are introduced to Sandra who overhears her fiance talking to his cousin, it answers several questions for her and leaves her wanting to escape. Good thing for her that an escape is available via the King's caravan! The first person she bumps into is not looking for a Mate but is looking to throw off a female so they strike a bargain. Naythan is going to help find her a husband even though his wolf is howling that Sandra is their Mate. What's a poor wolf to do??

We meet Sandra on her wedding day to a man she says her mother basically sold her to. Prince Kendrick says it was love at first sight, and rather than lose the family farm Sandra agrees to marry this man she has only met twice. Then she overhears that the Prince is being ordered to marry a princess for her money – and he is marrying a penniless peasant to spite his father the King who has squandered his fortunes. Realizing the empty promises she runs…..

Naythan is second in command of his wolf pack and like to keep all his options open, especially when it came to women. His pack is setting up for festival when they see a “runaway bride”. Naythan goes to make sure she is OK, and realizes she is his mate. Will she go through with a second “arranged marriage” to a gay prince or will her heart listen to Naythan? Interesting premise with some humor and some heat!!

Sandra is about to marry a prince so her mother will be able to stay in the home Sandra grew up in. Now that Sandra's father is dead, she and her mother are about to be evicted. After overhearing that not only does the prince not have any money, he's only marrying her to get back as his father. Sandra runs away and hides in a caravan traveling to a city some distance away. She meets Naythan, a wolf shifter traveling with the caravan. His pack provides protection for the royalty traveling. Sandra explains she's looking for a rich husband so her mother won't be evicted from her farm. Naythan agrees to help her if she'll help drive away his old girlfriend. She does and so he finds Allen, a rich prince whose parents want him to get married. She agrees even though the marriage will be in name only. Allen is in love with another man. Through ups and downs, Sandra finds out what is really important and sets out to get it. You will love the HEA even though they have to go through some trials and tribulations to get it.

Best guide ever

Everything you wanted to know about arms and armor. Wow! It is really hard to put this down, but it is really easy to pick it up again. It is like a dictionary with illustrations. If you like going to museums where these items are on display, I would highly recommend this book as it will give the background as to why the weapon or armor was designed and made the way it was.

Colored pictures it does not have, the opinions are just that, opinions. There have been corrections voiced and made by reviewers since it's first printing, and yes, some of the pieces were mislabeled... but... there isn't another tome out there that can compare with the sheer volume of information, the drawings and old black and whites for ideas and visual guides. Every reinactor that I know has a copy on their shelf for quick reference of arms and armor... enough said. I own 3 as the first hardcover was stolen...

A MUST HAVE SOURCE

This is the foundation work for all economic history on WW II. If you haven't reads this, then you will not completely understand the subject matter of wartime economics between 1939 and 1945. This is not to say that Milward is un-reproachable, just that this book was the beginning of sensible analysis and has stood the test of time very well indeed. It is a must have for any historian of the period.

Fundamental

This excellent book is fundamental to understanding both the nature of the Second World War and its consequences. Published over 25 years ago, it is still the basic book on this topic and a goldmine of information about WWII. In a series of concise and well written chapters, Milward covers a series of crucial topics including the basic strategic/economic approaches of the major (and some minor) combatants, the economic consequences of the war, the ways in which the combatants adapted to the prolonged nature of the war, the effects of the war on agriculture and labor, the organization of food supplies, the economics of occupation, attempts at economic warfare, and the efforts to establish a post-war economic order. A large number of interesting observations emerge. For example, at the outset of the war, each combatant's economic policy is shown to be the product of the overall strategic concept of the war (or in the case of the USA and the Soviet Union, lack of a strategic concept of the war). The British envisioned a longterm war, chose to organize a total war economy, and invested in research and development that would be very fruitful despite limited industrial capacity. For the Germans, on the other hand, Blitzkrieg was more than a tactic. It implies a war economy based on short, successful wars and deferring total mobilization for war. The Japanese hoped to make the war pay with economic support from the newly established conquests in Southeast Asia and China. As the war progessed, all the major combatants had to mobilize for total war, to greater and lesser degrees of success. The Allied economies were the most successful, partly because of the enormous capability of the USA but also because the polticial structure of the democracies proved more capable of developing the administrative apparatus for total mobilization. Milward is very good on how the experience of warfare altered the economies of combatants and the international economy as a whole. Milward shows also how the experience of economic mobilization abetted the organization and powers of central governments in the democracies and fueled the expectations that a successful international economic order based on active government control could be developed. This came to be partially true. As is often the case in Western history, warfare has been the mechanism by which centralization and expanded government power has occurred. Implicit in Milward's discussions are that this is true for domestic politics. The success of central governments and central control of the economy in WWII surely had a great deal to do with the emergence of socialist governments in Britain and more activist Federal governments (of any party) after the war.
