How to create loving relationships and end loneliness

Nineteen percent of Baby Boomers had no children, and an additional 17 percent have just one child. Recent research predicts that about 25 percent of Baby Boomers will become "elder orphans." These lonely souls are, or will be, single or widowed, have no children nearby, and cannot depend on a support network. Many will reach the last stage of life isolated, without intimate partners to oversee care. What a horrible conclusion to life!
How damaging to health is loneliness? New research validates that loneliness trumps obesity as an early predictor of death. Because of the deleterious effects of the stress hormone cortisol, which increases with loneliness, being lonely has the same physiological impact on health as does smoking 15 cigarettes every day.

Truly Enlightening

If you are not familiar with Jed Diamond's work, this is a great place to start. In this book, Jed gives hope to marriages and relationships in trouble or for good relationships to continue to flourish throughout life. He outlines the many stages of marriage and encourages couples not to give up hope too soon. Jed offers his unique insight into marriages at midlife. Most notable to me was his discussion about how our childhood wounds affect our adult relationships, especially at midlife. Through personal insight, we really can heal ourselves and our relationships and strive to reach our full potential as individuals and as couples. It's fascinating to me. I think Jed gives good advice towards changing perspectives, which is very healing. I love Jed's work, and I strongly encourage everyone to read not only The Enlightened Marriage, but his other books as well, and visit his website to gain valuable knowledge from the articles on his blog. I have learned a lot from Jed, especially how very caring he is and passionate about the work he does. God bless you Jed!
